There's a fair amount of discrimination on monsters for the most part. Vampires, Demons, Lamia, Merfolk, the list goes on. They're all considered 'subhuman', despite the more human-looking creatures having blended into society for the better part of human existence. Even so, these creatures do their best to survive in the modern world.
Not only is there chaos between humans and nonhumans, but there's also a lot of controversy on humans with strange abilities. Whether it be using magic, being able to turn invisible, or something else, most of these people are considered dangerous, but they too mostly just want to live in peace.
North America is divided, the Northeastern portion of the USA and Canada taken over by a cult and the eldritch creatures they've summoned from another dimension. There's a number of men and women who fight bravely in the attempt to reclaim this land.
Japan is more or less a safe haven for most species of humanoid monsters, although rumors of a vicious youkai hunter have begun to emerge. Europe is...on the fence, although it turns out a coven of vampires has been running everything behind the scenes for centuries.
